This goes without saying, but a toilet is meant to flush bodily waste down it. Need we say more?
Don’t Flush Garbage
Sometimes, you may find yourself checking your teeth in the mirror, reaching into your pocket with a free hand, and discovering some loose garbage sitting in there — such as a gum wrapper or a receipt from the store. And although you can toss those items into the garbage, some would rather risk it and flush them down the toilet.
As it turns out, flushing loose pieces of garbage is a bad idea, no matter how big or small they may be. They can cause a clog, but they can also get lodged in the pipe — which is never a good thing. So, when in doubt, throw them out in a nearby garbage can.
Do Flush Toilet Paper
Just like bodily waste, toilet paper is meant to be flushed down your toilet. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that you flush only a few sheets at a time — since there’s a chance that flushing a mass of “T.P.” can cause a clog.
Don’t Flush “Flushable” Wipes
This might come as a shock to some, but flushing “flushable” wipes isn’t necessarily good. As it turns out, many of them are not flushable at all and can get lodged in your toilet. On the flip side, there’s also a chance that they’ll have a very tough time entirely breaking down — which, as you guessed, can also cause a clog.
