Are you noticing an increasing pool of water just sitting on the bottom of your dishwasher, or is your trusty dish scrubber just not working like it used to; don’t go appliance shopping just yet, the issue could be an easy DIY fix! So if you are currently asking “Why won’t my dishwasher drain?” here’s what to look for:
Check For Clogs
The first thing you should look for when your dishwasher is backed up is a clog at the bottom. If the water is over 1 cup, you’ll want to try and remove as much of it as you can. Look to see if there’s any backed up food or debris and remove it as it could be the culprit.
It Could Be The Door Latch
If your dishwasher isn’t fully latching this could be your cause. Try and latch the door and see if it drains. If not and the door isn’t fully being secured, it might be time for a latch replacement.
Check For Blockage In The Drain Hose
If there are no clogs in the bottom of your dishwasher and the latch is working, it’s time to test the components and drain hose. Check your owner manual to identify the machine’s main components and look to make sure they aren’t broken or bent. Locate the drain hose and check for blockages, this may require you to remove it first. If everything looks okay, it’s time to move on.
Check The Motor
If you are still having trouble finding the cause, it could be the motor. Have you recently heard a humming coming from your machine? If so the motor could be shot, and it might be time to replace it. If you are unsure, run another load and take a close listen. If you are still having an issue finding the cause, it might be time to get your appliance serviced.
