Has a clogged toilet become an everyday occurrence? Are you running through plungers as fast as toilet paper? No, this should not be a common occurrence, and yes there are many reasons it could be happening. So to ditch the plunger and begin to flush with ease, here are a few reasons why your toilet is constantly getting clogged:
Garbage Can Toilet
The most obvious reason for your clogged toilet is your human error. If you’re the type of person who will throw your dirty cotton swabs, paper towels, gum, and any wrappers in the toilet, then you’re in for a world of clogs. Your toilet isn’t a garbage can, the only things that are meant to be flushed are human waste and toilet paper — that’s it!
Faulty Flapper
The flapper is one of the most important pieces of the toilet that is utilized during the flush. If yours is faulty the flush could be cut short, allowing a weak and lackluster flush. Open up the tank of your toilet and watch the round flapper piece move as you flush the toilet. If the tank doesn’t drain at least ¾ of the water, the flapper should be replaced.
Clogged Drain Line
Years of flushing garbage and “flushable” wipes down your toilet can eventually take a toll on the drain line. Things can build up and eventually cause serious blockages that won’t let the simplest of things pass through. If anything besides water and urine is causing your toilet to clog, call a plumber to clean out your drain line.
Water Woes
It could be as simple as low water in your toilet’s tank. Take a look inside, and if the water line is lower than the fill line, you’ll want to adjust the float.
