Spring is a time when you can take cleanliness to the next level by giving your home the deep cleaning it deserves. During a spring cleaning, the kitchen is the room that takes the longest and the most amount of elbow grease. To help you not forget anything, here’s a spring cleaning checklist for your kitchen.
- Start With the Sink –Before you attempt to clean anything, start with the sink. Place any dirty dishes in the dishwasher or wash them by hand. Once everything is clean, put them in their rightful place.
- Bye Bye Bye – Anything that doesn’t belong in the kitchen should be immediately put into a pile outside of the room. Either find a place for it in another room or off to the dump it goes!
Clean Linens – Round up all of the dish rags, wash cloths, and curtains so they can be washed. - Dust Buster – Grab your trusty duster (preferably microfiber) and begin dusting the kitchen from ceiling to floor to prevent dust from settling on already cleaned surfaces. Remove knick-knacks and decor from shelves, take down hanging art from the wall, and wipe down fan blades. Once everything has been properly dusted, vacuum the floor and replace all of the decor you previously took down.
- Cabinets & Drawers – When it comes time to clean out all of the cabinets, cupboards, and drawers, clean one at a time to prevent making a mess. Go through each one, throw out what isn’t needed, wipe down the interior, and replace everything in an organized manner.
- Surface Area – Remove all items from atop the counter tops, kitchen islands, and tables. Use a cleaning solution of soapy, warm water and a dash of vinegar to wipe clean all of the surfaces in the kitchen. For food spills that don’t want to wipe clean, scrub them with a paste made from baking soda and water. As you replace all of the items you removed from these surfaces, don’t forget to give them a good wipe down as well.
- Attention to Appliances – For your final check on the spring cleaning checklist, give your appliances the TLC you know they need. Spend some time cleaning the inside and outside of your refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, stove, microwave, and underneath the range hood. Keeping your appliances clean can help them perform more efficiently and increase their overall lifespan.
