Take a minute to think about all of the food and debris that goes down the drain of your kitchen sink. There’s actually quite a lot that goes down and these food particles can get stuck and leave behind a foul smell. Luckily, there are certain tips and tricks you can use to clear out the food and their sour stench!
- Leftover Pasta Water – Before you resort to throwing a bunch of products down your drain, start off with boiling water. An excessive amount of high temperature water down the drain can push away any residual food still left sitting in the piping. Adding a little soap will help to dissipate the lingering smell.
- Leftover Coffee Cleaner – Cleaning appliances with vinegar is a highly popular choice. Next time you’re boiling your coffee maker with vinegar, pour that hot vinegar down the drain. It will do the same job as boiling water, but it will do a better job of cleaning the residue and odor from the pipes.
- Science Fair Volcano – Start off by pouring a half cup of baking soda down your drain. Let it sit for a few minutes and then do a follow up pour with a half cup of vinegar. Your kitchen sink volcano will do a great job of cleaning your pipes, After a few minutes, run the hot water for a minute or two.
- Essential Oils – Head to the store and purchase your favorite scent of essential oils. Proceed to pour a half cup of baking soda down the drain followed by these oils. Let it sit overnight and then run some hot water down the drain in the morning. This technique is perfect for those that are about to go on vacation.
