If you are looking to remodel your bathroom, but want to cut cost, why not install your own bathroom tiles? Though it might seem like a complicated process, with some research, you can add some newly updated tiles to your remodeled bathroom in no time. So if you are looking to cut cost on your next remodeling job, keep these tile tips in mind:

Check Temperature

Before you start, the room must be at a consistent temperature during and after the installation. A perfect temperature will allow for proper drying of the grout and mastic. Too hot, you’ll cook it, too cold it will freeze and effect the bonding. So what is the perfect temperature? Between 50 to 70 degrees F for at least 24 hours before, and a minimum of 24 hours after.

Prep The Area

Prepping is key! You want to make sure you are applying the tile to a flat, dry surface, clean the area with mild soap and be sure that it’s structurally sound. If there are any structural issues, it might be time to call an expert. Once the area is prepped and ready to go, it’s time to waterproof; do so by installing a GreenBoard or Cement board with a drill and covering all seams with fiber tape. Before you begin tiling, have a game plan on the tiles layout and orientation.

Time to Tile

Now that the prepping is complete, it’s time to get tiling. You’ll want to make sure you have a temporary guide and rest to keep the tiles even and level. A long board, just shorter than the guide is perfect. You’ll then have to prep and apply the mortar and begin laying the tiles. Be sure to install each tiles evenly while placing spacers in between each one. After your bathroom tiling is complete, and the grout is applied, your completed DIY project will have to sit for at least 24 hours.
