Solutions To Your Home's Low Water Pressure

Have you ever turned the sink on while someone else was in the shower? In some homes, the water pressure of the second fixture would be extremely low. To avoid ever experiencing low water pressure, look to these quick solutions.

Replace the Regulator
Many homes have a water pressure regulator located on the front hose connection of your home. These regulators can help keep the water pressure from being too low, but a bad regulator can inhibit this. Replace the pressure regulator to attain the desired water pressure. However, hire a professional plumber to replace this piece so no further water flow problems develop.

Mineral Buildup
Plumbing that includes galvanized piping (usually present in older houses) will eventually attain a buildup of mineral deposits. Plumbing with extensive deposits will need to be cleared out by a professional plumber. If this problem occurs too often, a replacement of your home’s piping might need to be considered.

Leaky Pipes
Having pipes that leak will result in not only low water pressure, but also high monthly bills and the possibility of water damage. To find out if you have a leak in your plumbing, shut off all of the water in your home — inside and out. Mark down what the water meter is reading and wait two hours. Head back to the meter and see what the reading is. If the number is higher than it was, your home has a leak that needs to be addressed immediately.

Having low water pressure could be due to multiple reasons, so you better start getting down to the bottom of things now!
